Shoes are definitely one of the most important part of my wardrobe.
There is some mystical power associated with buying shoes, and even buying clothing in general. However I can easily resist buying clothes what I am unable to do is resist buying shoes that I like. I am the queen of excuses for a pair of shoes. ´Practice makes perfect´ so believe me I am really good at finding the proper excuse and swipe the Visa to purchase the pair of shoes that have stolen my heart.
According to the anthropological research, shoes appeared for the first time about 40,000 years ago what allows me to think that the shoes are an essential part of our outfit.
‘One shoe can change your life.’ – Cinderella
Event the Cindirella´s life was changed thank to a pair of shoes. We, women are definitely obsessed with shoes (to be honest I also know few men with similar shoe obsession/ shoe disorder that mine). It is an experience. The best part is trying them on, stepping slowly, looking into the mirror until the moment you know that the decision is not going to be an easy one and finally you end up buying them.
‘Shoes transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally.’ – Christian Louboutin
It looks like there is a psychological reasoning behind shoe purchase strongly related to dopamine boost. It is enough to start thinking about shoes shopping and the adrenaline starts to course through the whole body. Various hormones responsible for the feeling such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and finally the most important one – serotonin causing the effect of ´WOW, I am feeling so fab´, ´I look great in these shoes´ , `Wow, I think I look slimmer`. The adrenaline and dopamine gets its highest level when you finally swipe Visa and feel the owner of these beauties and can take them home.
Trying to get to know more on shoes I bought a kind of encyclopedia and it was only then when I released how many different kinds of shoes there are… Not only high heels, plain and boots. Flats, heels, boots, ballets, sandals, clogs, platforms, wedges, strappy, buckled, lace-ups, peep-toes, I love shoes, desire and lust after them. I feel my heart beating when I look at shoes and already get the idea of matching them with some outfit from my wardrobe.
‘Shoes are the quickest way for women to achieve instant metamorphosis.’ – Manolo Blahnik
A pair of shoes is a kind of a manifest of an attitude, style or mood. The shoes define the way we walk, I always feel more attractive during my presentations or events wearing high heels however it took me a while to find the proper balance and tricks to wear them without suffering.
I am far, really, far away from the average woman who owns between 15 to 20 pairs of shoes at any given time. Thank God that almost one in every 15 women claims to have more than 100 pairs.
Confession
My case? Lots! Many, many, maybe even too many. On the other hand, I wonder if there is any limit on the number of shoes a woman can have. Multiply it by ….. wait, it is better I do not reveal how many shoes I have… I am not sure whether I should be classified with shoe disorder or shoe obsession.
Manolos, when staying in Madrid, I realized that there was so much art in these shoes so I could not miss the exhibition in Madrid organized by Vogue Spain. The shoe models I have seen caught my attention not only because I saw extraordinary design but also I could imagine the creativity of Manolo and his attention to the detail.
Another original design comes from Louboutin. Louboutin creates shoes that are brazenly sexy and look like ´I can hardly stand still wearing them´. The shape, the arch and of course, his signature red sole that can be seen straightaway while walking. I could not resist of getting a pair for myself and especially when I saw the heel not too high and found it comfortable I knew they were going home with me. I liked the ´naughty accent´ added at the back.
‘A woman with good shoes is never ugly.’ – Coco Chanel
Psychologist explanation on the hunting and the great feeling when you end up with new shoes seem to be a good excuse for your next shoe purchase. So, what are you waiting for? Stop feeling guilty for your shoe shopping. It it time for a new pair of shoes and as I will be staying shortly in Milan…
No need to repeat it twice…
